Dr. Robert W. Sessoms
When Robert W. Sessoms was in the 4th grade he read at the 6th grade level. By the time he was in the 6th grade he knew the data on every plane that flew and built models of every fighter/bomber of World 1, 2, Korea, Vietnam. His interest of Aircraft was exceeded by his interest in Science. Growing up in Florida he had his own version of the show "Wild Kingdom” in his neighborhood, Shrimp, fish ,crabs, snakes, bugs, snails, thunder storms, watching rockets lift off from Cape Kennedy and a big ocean. As he matriculated through high school and college, he did his best in every course. Even though his best grades were in science, he did his best in History, Economics, Math and English, and in High School his short stories would always be excellent. He attended Bethune-Cookman College, then Atlanta University where he studied cellular molecular biology. He applied to Meharry Medical School , and one hot summer July day in Atlanta, he went to his mailbox and there was the letter from Meharry that said "pack your bags and come to MeHarry." Attending med school and working in the field has been rewarding on many levels but 20 years later the plight of African Americans overall has not changed. Afrokids presents a very special and unique opportunity to impart knowledge and a sense of value to our youth.
